ZERMATT
(Matterhorn)

One Of The Greatest Ski Areas In The World…

Zermatt is a stunning place and has a mountain with many incredible viewpoints. The village to the east of Geneve on the border to Italy and it will take you 3 hours to get here by car or 4 hours by train and bus. Alternative its a 3.5 hours drive from Turin in Italy or you can stay on the Italian side Breuil-Cervinia and still access Zermatt by skiing.
Zermatt is larger in size and has a population of around 6000. Its an upmarket resort with some classy stylish hotels and restaurants.

Zermatt is a car-free zone which is great and there are only battery-driven vehicles in town, which makes the village a lot less noisy. If staying in Zermatt, most hotels will come to pick you up with a small cute cart from the station.

Zermatt is surrounded by Switzerland’s highest peaks with the famous Matterhorn peak with its distinct look but also Klein Matterhorn and the Breithorn are here as well. Zermatt is also known for its hiking and mountaineering although skiing is world class here.

Zermatt is one of the greatest ski resorts in the world, skiing at a high altitude with some long challenging runs. In general, its more for intermediate skiing but there are easier areas like the Sunnegga.

Zermatt ski area is connected to Breuil-Cervinia in Italy and the ski area is very big. You will need a minimum of 5 days here to ski the whole area.

The areas are Sunnegga, Gornergrat, Klein Matterhorn, Schwarzsee, Cervinia, and Valtournenche. The ski lift system is modern and impressive as expected and in two places they use comfortable trains instead of lifts!

Your choice for upscale and luxury hotels is vast and it can be hard to choose between those ones. There are options for all budgets though further away from the town centre and main lifts. We stayed in

Hotel Phoenix

a modern 3-star hotel just on the outskirt of town for a few nights. A lovely small hotel with beautiful views over the Matterhorn. We also had 3 nights at the all-inclusive

Matthiol Boutique Hotel

on the outside of town, near the Matterhorn Talstat main ski lift. Another great place, for pure relaxation and comfort away from the hustle.
