GUANACASTE

West Central Coastline…

Guanacaste is a large region and we only managed to explore a small part of it this time on the central western coast. You will need a minimum of 4 weeks if you want to see it all. Driving around takes time as the roads are small in general and if you want to drive the scenic route you will come across plenty of dirt roads. So when renting a car try to the get a Jeep or similar with bigger wheels, it’s well worth it. Also, note that car rental in Costa Rica is very expensive. It’s due to high insurance costs which are at least double the car rental price itself! But to discover everything that Guanacaste has to offer, what you get in return is definitely worth every penny…

Costa Rica is not cheap but there are some upsides to that!
With a higher price tag you inevitably put quite a few people off which means that wherever you go, it’s not too overcrowded.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country that is investing heavily in being eco-friendly and preserving wildlife and nature and you can really feel this. A lot of places feel untouched and pure and you will encounter plenty of interactions with wildlife in its natural form and we do love this.

There’s plenty of things to see and do. You have the volcanoes, nature reserves with waterfalls, coffee plantations, and great surf spots. Plenty of wildlife with various monkeys, turtles, sloths and other wildlife to be seen.

Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer…

Some lovely hotels and an eco-friendly vibe and style, whether staying or just visiting, there’s plenty of nice places for food and drinks…
There are some beautiful waterfalls around as well…

Catarata Llanos De Cortez

waterfall is one of the nicest we’ve seen. It’s very easy to swim here and also to get close up and underneath it. From the car park you will have to walk for about 20 minutes to reach the waterfall, so do bring plenty of water with you.

It’s a little hard to find and we missed the exit twice but it’s also not over-commercialized which is great…
