Barbados is one of the most famous islands in the Caribbean. A tropical paradise with picture-perfect beaches, palm trees, and turquoise waters. There are two main areas where most tourists will end up. You have the west coast that is centered around Holetown. Here there are more upmarket resorts and hotels. There are many beaches along the whole coastline and its very calm waters everywhere. On the southern coast, centered around St Lawrence Gap, you have a more laid back scene in both style and vibe. The water is slightly wilder and surfing is popular around here.
To get around the island you will need a car. Its the safest and easiest option to explore other areas.

Barbados used to be a British colony so you will find many buildings, hotels, and restaurants in a traditional colonial style.
There are plenty of casual bars and restaurants all over the island and most of the upmarket places can be found in the resorts on the west coast. Foodwise there are plenty of hearty dishes that are full of flavors. Expect dishes like coconut shrimps, flying fish, oxtail, rice and pies, pepper pot and sweet bread.
The eastern coast of Barbados is very much wild beaches and big waves. Expect more nature and fewer people. It’s not as many places to stay and eat though, but it’s a perfect place to unwind if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle.
